Former President Solih pledges collaboration with Nasheed soon

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced he will soon meet with former President Mohamed Nasheed to work together politically. Speaking at an MDP meeting in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo today, President Solih stated that upon returning to Malé from his trip, he will meet with Nasheed, and the two will work together to secure victory in next year’s local council elections. He confirmed they are already in consultation.

Nasheed left the MDP after losing the 2023 presidential primary to President Solih amid disagreements. He subsequently founded a new party called The Democrats. However, in June this year, President Nasheed rejoined the MDP. At the rally marking his return, he predicted the ruling PNC would receive only 20 percent in the council elections.

Within the MDP, presidential race competition is intensifying, with President Solih and former Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail both expressing interest in running. Party President Abdullah Shahid is also reportedly interested. Additionally, rivalry between Malé mayoral candidates Ali Azim and current Mayor Adam Azim has intensified.
