Today’s friday sermon stated that Islam commands working for livelihood and that Muslims should be economically self-sufficient. In today’s sermon dedicated to the topic “Be productive and creative workers!”, it was stated that Muslims can only become self-sufficient by being people who know work and produce things through their labor.
The sermon noted that Allah the Almighty has placed the earth and its plants, the fish and creatures of the sea, and other things in service of mankind.
The sermon further stated that in Islamic Sharia, trading, conducting transactions, farming the land, or earning sustenance through other work is permissible. Highlighting that Allah has commanded seeking sustenance through some form of work or through business, the sermon noted that Allah has facilitated the means for people to manage their lives on this earth.
The sermon stated that from an Islamic perspective, sitting idle at home while having the capability to earn a living is not appropriate. It was also mentioned in the sermon that the Noble Prophet ﷺ has instructed to work diligently and earn halal sustenance to improve one’s livelihood.
