President decides to disclose the cost of official visits within 15 days

President Mohamed Muizzu has decided to disclose the expenses incurred on his official visits.

According to the President’s Office, the President has made it mandatory to disclose the state’s budgetary expenditure on The Official Visits of the President within 15 days of the end of each visit.

President’s decision came amid criticism from the public for making making several state-funded trips within few days of his inauguration. The president travelled to Turkey and the UAE with the beginning of his presidency.

The decision to make public the cost of the president’s official visits has been widely appreciated by many as a good decision. Journalists usually approach the President’s Office under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking information about presidents’ visits. During the previous government, the president’s travel expenses were high.
