A motion signed by 50 lawmakers has been accepted and a notice has been issued to Eva, for no confidence motion scheduled.
The parliament house confirmed that a notice had been issued to Eva on Thursday in connection with the case. The motion signed by 50 lawmakers has been accepted by the House and Eva has been served a 14-day notice.
MDP had filed a motion to remove Eva from her post on 13th of this month. According to MDP’s resolution, Eva was appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the house by a vote among MDP parliamentary group members. However, Eva has lost the confidence of MDP parliamentary group members as she has left the party on her own request.
According to the resolution, Eva is illegally obstructing the case by not proceeding with the meeting on which Nasheed’s removal was scheduled. MDP also alleged that Eva had refused to appear in Nasheed’s case as she was a family member of the president and violated Article 75 of the Constitution.
MDP had earlier moved a resolution to remove Mohamed Nasheed from the post of Speaker of the Parliament. The delay in pursuing the case was due to Eva, the party said in a statement. As the issue heated up, Nasheed stepped down from his post.
Currently, the Speaker of the House is Mohamed Aslam, MP from Hithadhoo North constituency.
