Spokesperson of the President-elect’s Office Mohamed Firzul has said that funds have been allocated for the completion of the Velana International airport project.
Firzul said that though President-elect Dr. Muizzu’s visit was an unofficial visit, the UAE government had made all arrangements for his visit. During his visit, he held a meeting with the UAE government and requested them to allocate funds for the completion of the airport project. The money has been provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund, Said Firzul.
President-elect. Muizzu’s hope and vision is to expedite the completion of Velana International Airport project. It is also important for economic growth. The President-elect should make it possible to use the full terminal of the airport for the peak season of 2024. This will be achieved with the help we have received from the UAE.
– Firzul said.
Firzul said the cost of the work has increased significantly due to the long pendency of the work and the changes in the designs. An additional $79.80 million is needed for the project. He said that $80 million (MVR 1.2 billion) assurance has been given to the president-elect.
President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the most important thing for all industries is the early completion of the stalled Velana International Airport. However, according to the information gathered by the committees conducting the transitional process, the work is expected to be completed as per the current schedule in July 2025, dr. Muizzu said.
