Ihavandhoo launch and boat collide, one person dead

One person was killed when a boat collided with a speed launch near H.A. Ihavandhoo. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rasheed Mohamed (68), a resident of Ihavandhoo Nayadezi house.

According to the police, the accident took place near Huvahandhoo, a remote island near Ihavandhoo. Three people were rushed to Ihavandhoo Hospital for treatment after the accident. Abdul Raheed, however, succumbed to his injuries by the time he was taken to the hospital.

At the time of the accident, Abdul Rasheed was driving the boat, who was reportedly standing on the tail end of the boat. It is learnt that Abdul Rashid and his son were on board the dhoni.

According to a source from Ihavandhoo, Abdul Rasheed died after falling into the sea. He was found closer to Ihanvandhoo than the location accident occurred, the informant said.

There was no movement when Abdul Rasheed was taken out of the sea and he suffered head and face injuries, the informant also said. Images of the accidental vessel and the launch showed that both the vessels were badly damaged in the incident.

According to sources, there was no light in dhoni at the time of the accident.
