MP Ali Hameed, Member of Parliament for Isdhoo constituency, has left Jumhooree Party (JP) to join the ruling MDP. He signed onto the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), in an event held at Muliaage today, witnessed by President Solih and MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail.
Other parliamentarians were also present at the time of signing ceremony.
Since JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim announced his intention to run the upcoming presidential election, several JP senior members who are in government senior positions have been resigning from JP, to demonstrate their support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
So far, including Minister to President’s Office Ahmed Sameer, CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim, Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Hassan Shah, Immigration Controller Mohammed Ahmed Hussain (Hanafi), several other members of JP, who were in senior positions in President Solih’s administration have also left the party.
Additionally, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has also endorsed President Solih.
