Azim to contest for Mayor’s post in Male’ city on MDP ticket

With no other candidate to contest in the party’s primary, former MTCC CEO Adam Azim secures MDP ticket for the Mayor’s post without a primary.

MDP has decided to give party tickets to those who applied for the vacant posts in Male’ City Council without a primary as only one candidate from each constituency applied for the vacant posts.

Others who got tickets without primaries:

– Central Henveiru Constituency – Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed – H. Waymouth / Male’ – Henveiru South Constituency – Hawa Nihla – H. Tarabuzuge / Male’

– Maafannu South Constituency – Ahmed Imran – M. Falomathige / Male’ .

The Mayor’s seat fell vacant after his predecessor Mohamed Muizzu was sworn in as president on November 17, 2020, following his victory in the presidential election.

Three Male’ City councillors have also resigned to join President Muizzu in various government positions.

The elections to these seats will be held on January 13, the Election Commission said in a statement.

Mohamed Saif Fatih, former attorney general Aishath Azima Shakoor and former Police commissioner Hussain Waheed are among those who are contesting for the Mayor’s post.
