We will ensure that MDP leadership is not accepted by foreign countries: Nasheed

Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has said he will make sure that those in the leadership of MDP will not be allowed to travel to foreign countries.

Nasheed made the remarks in a message sent to the parliament’s official WhatsApp group in response to a letter written by Dhvaafaru MP Ismail Ahmed to the organisers of the 17th Global Citizenship Conference in the UAE.

Nasheed gave a direct reply to MDP’s parliamentary group leader and MP from Hithadhoo North constituency, Mohamed Aslam.

Aslam, we will expel MDP people from all of those platform and we will not allow them in foreign countries.

Nasheed said.

When MP Aslam shared in the group about a position secured from a foreign organisation by Hinnavaru MP Jihan Mahmood, Nasheed said that MDP’s loss of power was less than what would happen next.

In the letter addressed to 17th Global Citizenship Conference in the UAE, MP Ismail said Nasheed had come to the conference to get rid of the current issue of his removal from the parliament. The letter also sought Nasheed’s removal from the list of speakers at the conference.

Nasheed has alleged that the letter was sent at the behest of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih,  Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain (Bigey) and President’s brother Ali Niyaz of Hulhumale’ constituency.

Nasheed said the conference organisers would not take action over the letter.

Nasheed is currently in Dubai to address the Global Citizenship Conference. MDP has filed a constitutional case in the Supreme Court seeking a direction on Nasheed’s no-confidence motion currently in the Parliament agenda.

The hearings in the case have been completed and are now in the process of a verdict.
