The Maldives Police Service says they have begun the investigating a suspected homicide in Nolhivaram in Haa Dhaalu atoll.

It is suspected that a 28-year-old woman was murdered on the island. Maldives Police Service confirmed that the case was reported and filed on Saturday afternoon, at around 12:30 p.m.

Maldives Police Service informs that, as soon as the case was reported, the scene was attended by a police officer. The murdered woman was taken to the Nolhivaram Health Centre.

The woman was know to be already dead when she was taken to the health centre.

Residents of the island reported suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, including hearing a loud arguments between the couple, the same day incident happened. Local islanders also reported, the same day, shortly before woman’s body was found, her husband rent a small boat and fled the island.

He reportedly travelled to nearby Kulhudhuffushi City.

Couples of have three children together. While woman belonged  Nolhivaram, her husband is from Fenfushi, in the same atoll.

Though a police team from Kulhudhuffushi police station has been deployed to Nolhivaram for investigation, the police so far provided no official statement to the incident.
