Horafushi MP Ahmed Salim (Salle) has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

Saleem was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament with a vote of 51 members. Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, who contested against him, got 23 votes.

He thanked all the lawmakers of the ruling party for electing him as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

He said that the vote also showed that MDP is a democratic party and that everyone can progress within the party. The post of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament fell vacant after North Galolhu MP Eva resigned from the post.
