Democratic party’s internal elections today

The Democrats, founded by Nasheed, will hold internal elections today, the party said.

The party’s president and vice-president will be elected in today’s elections. Members will also be elected to 23 posts today. The elections are scheduled to be held from 10 am to 4 pm. Voting will be held at Billabon School in Male’ City.

Former STO MD Hussain Amr and party’s acting Chairperson Hassan Latheef are vying for the post of Democratic Party president. The party members, who are contesting the polls, have been touring islands and campaigning during the last few weeks.

The Democrats was formed by members at odds with MDP, under the leadership of President Nasheed. The party was formed on July 12. As of August 7, democrats had only 3,280 members, according to the EC’s recoreds.
