Azim to contest for the Male’ City Mayor’s post!

It is learnt that former MTCC CEO Adam Azim is likely to contest for the Mayor’s post in Male’ City Councile.

While Azam did not confirm the news, sources close to him confirmed the news to News Line. Azim was the Managing Director of MWSC at the beginning of President Solih’s tenure. Since then, he has served as the CEO of MTCC. Azim was hailed as one of the most successful CEO in the history of MTCC, who ran the company.

Azim also served as MD of STO during President Yameen’s tenure.

While it is learnt that Azim has decided to run for the Mayor’s post in Male’ City Council, Mariya Didi, who served as the Defence Minister during the MDP government, tweeted that she would support him, saying he was the right person for the job.

Ahmed Mahloof, who served as the Youth Minister under President Solih’s administration, has also previously said that he will run for the Mayor’s post. However, there is no confirmation yet on whether the two will contest the party’s primary.

Former Attorney General Azima Shakoor has expressed interest in running for the Mayor’s post from the ruling PNC. Former Police Commissioner Hussain Waheed is running for Mayor of Male’ City from the newly formed President Yameen’s PNF.

The Election Commission (EC) decided to hold the Mayoral election for the vacant Male’ City Council on January 13, 2020.

The post of Mayor of Male’ City is lying vacant with incumbent President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu resigned from his post after being elected president. During his tenure as Mayor of Male’ City, President Muizzu has worked extensively for the development and development of Male’ City.
