President Yameen’s son Zain’s name has been proposed as the chief applicant (Muvassis) to form the People’s National Front (PNF), the new political party founded by former president PPM.
Maleeh, who was at the forefront of forming the party after a meeting with the Election Commission (EC), said Yameen had sought permission to form the party today along with eight applicants. But the law says only one person can be the “Muvassis” to form the party. Therefore, the request to grant permission to form the party was made in the name of President Yameen’s son Zain, Maleeh said.
Names submitted by Yameen as applicats are:
1. President Yameen
2. Dr. Jameel
3. Zhein
4. Hussain Waheed
5. Mustafa
6. Adhli
7. Dr. Jihad
8. Ali Adam
Maleeh said they will seek permission to form the party once criminal records are clear.
Once the party is allowed to be formed, it will become the fastest party in terms its speed to complete the process of forming a party in Maldives so far, said Maleeh. He also said this party would contest the assembly elections as well as the mayor’s seat in the city.
Yameen’s decision to quit the party and form a new party was taken on the grounds that he had been sidelined by the PPM leadership. Yameen has levelled several allegations against President Muizzu, including the president’s refusal to respond to his phone calls and not being released from prison. Yameen’s main aim is to go out and win next year’s parliamentary elections with the new party.
