ACC orders to stop all allotment of flats

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has directed the Housing Ministry to stop all process of allotment of flats as per the permanent list of 4,000 beneficiaries under the ‘Housing Scheme’ of the current government.

The Housing Ministry issued a permanent list of beneficiaries and released the rates at which the flats were allotted, saying that the directions were based on complaints received from applicants for the housing scheme.

The draw among the allottees also started in the evening. In a letter to the Housing Ministry last evening, the ACC has directed it to stop all works related to signing of contracts and handing over of flats to be allotted under the government housing scheme.

It is learnt that, so far, the agency’s investigation has revealed that a group of people who did not meet the eligibility criteria for flats were declared eligible and when the forms were evaluated, points were awarded to some people in violation of rules and did not do so in cases where the authenticity of the information submitted by some could be verified.

According to a notification issued by the Housing Ministry last evening, the permanent list has been prepared after taking into account the complaints received by applicants for the housing scheme.

With the change in the list, those who have secured three-room flats in the first round, for scoring 76 points will get flats and the remaining flats will be allotted to those who have scored 75 marks, by a draw.

The two-room flats will be allotted only to those who have scored 73 marks, the notification said. According to the notification, if a couple is selected to get the flat from among the applicants for the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme, then the couple will get one flat or one flat for one of the allottees.

The monthly rent for the three-room flat to be allotted under the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme is MVR 7,000. and MVR 1,000 per month as repair fee. With this, the total amount is MVR 8,000 per flat. The monthly rent for two rooms is MVR 5,000. and MVR 1,000 per month as repair fee.

The payment of rent will begin after a grace period of three months from the date of handing over the flat. The rent will have to be paid for 300 months.
