India’s Science Minister Kiren Rijuju is learnt to be scheduled to attend Maldives President-elect Dr. Muizzu’s swearing-in ceremony, as a special representative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Indian High Commission informed some media outlets that Kiren Rijuju kan will be arriving as a special representative of the Prime Minister of India.
The President-elect’s Office has also extended invitation to India, for Muizzu’s swearing-in ceremony. The office later said that Dr. Muizzu has sent invitations to all neighbouring countries for the swearing-in ceremony and has not sent invitations for individuals.
It is learnt that one of the reasons why Modi could not attend Muizzu’s swearing-in ceremony was because he was attending the G20’s Voice of Global Summit on May 17. The G20 is currently chaired by India.
The Indian Prime Minister also visited the Maldives for the swearing-in ceremony of President Solih in 2018. It is common for presidents of neighbouring countries to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new president at the start of a new presidential term.
