Aslam elected as speaker of parliament

MP from Hithadhoo North constituency and MDP PG Leader Mohamed Aslam has been elected as the Speaker of the Parliament. Aslam was pitted against Ali Azim from The Democrats.

Aslam and Azim’s names were proposed for the Parliament sitting held last evening to elect the Speaker of the House. Aslam received 53 votes, which was attended by 77 members. Azim got only 23 votes.

Aslam has served four consecutive terms in parliament. Since the 16th Parliament, he has been serving tirelessly as a member of parliament. Aslam is also the chair of the Committee on Security Services, 241.

He has also played an important role in other committees. Aslam has so far also served as the PG leader. After President Solih’s election as president, Aslam became the parliamentary leader. Aslam was also president Solih’s running mate.
