The new government’s cabinet will have 22 Ministers and will consist entirely of those who will be educated and will deliver results, President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.
Speaking at a state media coverage on Republic Day, the President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that as promised during the campaign, Ministers in the cabinet, the heads of state-owned companies and other senior positions in the government will be occupied by those who he can trust. They are competent people at a level where they don’t have to seek permission from someone else, Dr. Muizzu said.
Dr,. Muizzu also said his cabinet will be a team that will produce results. He said that even if new Ministries are inducted into the cabinet, the cost will not go up. He said the decision to convert some Ministries into two Ministries and create new ones was taken for the purpose of doing serious and focused work.
The reason, he said, was that the responsibility of those ministries were too much and not a single thing could be done properly.
I said we want peace in the country. We don’t want to go ahead forever in the spirit of division, vengeance and constant hostility. We want to move forward in friendship, we want peace.

He said two or three new Ministries will be created. Therefore, there are 22 Ministries.
The promise we made in the campaign will be there. An agriculture Ministry will be set up. Talk of creating a Ministry that will strengthen the decentralisation process. The Ministries will give something special to the local language. But only two or three new ministries can be created without splitting them.
– Dr. Muizzu said.
Even if there are more ministries, it will not be necessary to find more buildings to run government offices, he said. He said he would not do anything that would increase recurring costs, such as renting out a private person’s house or some other place.
He also reiterated his claim that there would be fewer political posts. He said he would not appoint more than 700 political appointees.
