The president-elect Mohamed Muizzu has requested to put on hold the allotment of flats During the interim phase.
The Housing Ministry has now released the permanent list of beneficiaries of 4,000 flats under the government’s housing scheme. Since then, people have been complaining about the distribution of flats. Protesting at the Housing Ministry, they raised slogans and demanded stop distribution of flats.
Complaints have also been lodged with the President-elect’s office regarding the manner in which the flats are allotted.
Speaking at a press conference today, President-elect’s spokesman Mohamed Firzul said, “Housing is Dr. Muizzu’s one of the top priorities of the incoming government.”
Firzul said the president-elect would like to put an end to such activities that could hamper the implementation of the policy and cause inconvenience to the people. Firzul said if it is found that flats have been allotted to a particular group of people in an improper manner , they will be looked into.
Firzul also said it would be better for the new government to take over the task instead of rushing through the interim process.
I can’t believe we can take it in the most fair manner in the next nine days. The President-elect’s Office has been receiving complaints of corruption in the matter. The president-elect requests stop this because it could not be carried out in the most fair manner.
– Firzul said.
More than 20,000 applicants applied when the government opened applications for 4,000 flats being constructed under the housing scheme. More than 13,000 people met the eligibility criteria.
The government has decided to allot flats to all eligible beneficiaries. However, with 4,000 flats yet to be completed, there has been a lot of criticism. The government has also made public the permanent list of beneficiaries on May 4. It is alleged that the government allotted flats to close associates of some senior officials.
