The Maldives Government has condemned Israeli Heritage Minister Amihai Eliah’s remarks tthat the use of a nuclear bomb on the beseigned Gaza strip is an option.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOF) said it was “deeply concerned” that such a statement was being made at a time when Israeli forces were attacking scores of innocent civilians in Palestine. The Ministry of External Affairs also noted with concern that the Israeli government has not responded adequately to the statement that violates international humanitarian law.
The Maldives also called on the international community to take action against such statements that endanger the lives of Palestinians and violate international human rights law.
While the Government of Maldives has repeatedly called on the international community to act swiftly to prevent attacks on innocent civilians, it has also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and to allow humanitarian aid to be provided to the Palestinian people without interruption.
Various activities are being carried out in the Maldives to help the Palestinian people. Several rallies and marches have also been organised in Male’ City and across the country to protest Israel’s occupation of Paletine lands.
The death toll from Israeli strikes in Gaza is close to 10,000, including about 4,000 children. There are more than 2,000 women. About 25,000 people were injured in the attacks.
