JSC has decided to allow Justice Ahmed Shakeel of the High Court to retire.
JSC said that Justice Ahmed Shakeel of the High Court submitted a request for retirement from the post of Judge on health grounds under Section 66(c) of the Maldives Judges Act and Section 2(c) of the Judges Retirement Rules.
It was unanimously decided by the members who participated in the vote. Judge Ahmed Shakil was suffering from a heart condition, Sick Sinus Syndrome. The pacemaker was applied twice in response to this procedure.
JSC said the Commission considered the recommendations made by the doctor regarding the current difficulties faced by Justice Ahmed Shakil due to the disease.
Justice Ahmed Shakeel has served as a judge for 20 years. Retiring judges due to health reasons is the duty of the Commission in accordance with the provisions of law and regulations. Four judges have retired this year due to health reasons.
