Malé, Maldives – Majlis Speaker and MDP President Mohamed Nasheed will be visiting India on his way back from Washington, after participating in the Finance Minister’s 9th Annual Gathering, in consultation with the Climate Vulnerable Forum, V20, relevant sources said today.
Though this has been confirmed by the relevant source, the Parliament did not give details about this scheduled trip to India, including when he is set to return. Nasheed had last traveled to India in August of last year.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which as a single party still enjoys an absolute majority in the Parliament, has been facing internal problems as differences between the two leaders widened over issues of personal and national interest.
The differences between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed have caused political instability by damaging the interests of both leaders.
However, it’s still evident that both are supported by India, while President Solih’s candidacy is likely to be backed by India.
