President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Thursday with the Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members of Hirilandhoo Island in the Thaa Atoll. The meeting was held at the Hirilandhoo School this afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, President Solih extended his gratitude to the island’s people for the warm welcome accorded to him and the accompanying delegation. The discussions at the meeting focused on the people’s developmental needs and ways to address their concerns.
At the meeting, the council members noted the significant number of developmental projects initiated by this administration and extended their gratitude to President Solih. They also noted that while many projects were in progress, others had been completed.
The council members also shared with President Solih the concerns of their constituents. Some topics discussed at the meeting included coastal protection, transportation and difficulties in harbour usage, challenges to fishermen, and a shortage of available job opportunities in the region. WDC members emphasised the importance of improving healthcare services on the island.
Speaking with the island council and WDC members, President Solih briefed them about the administration’s developmental agenda for the island. The President also assured the members that he would discuss with relevant stakeholders how to address the concerns raised at the meeting.
Following the meeting, President Solih officially inaugurated the island’s new volleyball court and participated in a friendly volleyball game between a veteran’s and the island’s volleyball teams.
