Maldivian Red Crescent’s earthquake relief fund receives MVR 2.9 million

Relief Fund opened by Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC)  on 07th February 2023, in response to Emergency Appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to respond to the deadly earthquake in Türkiye and Syria and support the relief efforts, has received MVR 2,990,618.91 in 07 days, says MRC.

MRC stated that the relief fund was opened from 07th – 14th February 2023, and has raised a total of MVR 2,990,618.91 in 07 days. Donations collected through the Türkiye and Syria Relief will support the CHF 200 million international appeal released by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the Türkiye and Syria earthquakes.

MRC’s fundraising activities for the Türkiye and Syria Relief was carried out across the country and funds were collected through direct bank transfer and by placing fund boxes in Kulhudhuffushi City by MRC Kulhudhuffushi City Office on 11th February 2023 (between 1600hrs – 1800hrs) and in Greater Male’ Area by MRC Male’ City Office on 14th February 2023 (between 1000hrs – 1500hrs), which raised 22,219.56 MVR.

MRC informs that they have now initiated the process to fulfill the necessary requirements to transfer the raised funds to the IFRC.

MRC emphasised its committed to ensuring complete transparency and accountability for all the donations receive and stated that  timely updates will be shared with the public on the transfer and utilization of the funds to help those in need in Türkiye and Syria.
