Thinadhoo to be made a city: President

At a primary campaign rally today, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed his intention of  giving Gdh. Thinadhoo the status of a city.

Speaking at a his campaign trail for the upcoming MDP primary election, President said Thinadhoo will be given the city status prior to his next earliest possible visit to the Island. President said, the government will full-fill all necessary requirements in terms of establishing facilitates needed as a pre requirement for awarding city status.

The president said these would include construction of tertiary hospital, an international commercial port and an international airport at the vicinity.

Among pledges for the development of the Thinadhoo Island, President assured the initially allocated 100 housing units will be increased to 200, and said the island council will soon be announcing the land allocation the reclaimed area of the island.

President underlined the importance of Thinadhoo Island in the government development agenda, and said Huvadhoo Atoll holds best islands for the tourism development, the reason for establishing and international airport, a commercial port, basic services and health services in the atoll.
