Bank of Maldives recognizes the pioneers of the bank

Bank of Maldives has honoured and recognized its pioneers, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom and late Ismail Fathy for their vision and invaluable contribution in establishing the national bank.

The awards were presented by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at an event held last night, to celebrate the Banks’ 40th Anniversary.

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Late Ismail Fathy laid the foundation for the Bank to start its commercial operation with International Finance Investment Company Limited of Bangladesh, with the government of Maldives holding 60% shares at inception. The visionary leaders are at the heart of the banking history in Maldives.

The Bank also recognized the longest serving employees Aishath Noordeen, Fathimath Manike and Moosa Mohamed for having served the Bank for 40 years.

Today, Bank of Maldives has the largest banking network in the country and is one of the largest employers in the Maldives, with over 99% of its staff base being proud Maldivians.
