Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched a major investigation into recent fire incidents in Malé and the atolls, reveals Police Commissioner MC Hameed.
In a tweet today, Hameed announced the decision after today’s massive fire that broke out at the Neelan Fihaara, at approximately 06:00 am. While calling for public support, he did not reveal further details into the investigation.
The fire that broke out at the second hand market (Neelan Fihaara) in the early hours on Monday, was finally jointly controlled by police, MNDF and civilians. Fire was brought under control at approximately 07:30 am.
A fire was also broke out in GDh. Fiyoaree School on Sunday evening, destroying the old premises of the school. Among other fire incidents that occurs this month, there was a massive fire in Raa atoll, Alifushi; on Friday there was a fire in Hulhumalé phase 2; and on the last day of December 2022 there was a fire in Hulhudhoo, Addu City.
Fires also broke out at the Neelan Fihaara ling ago, in 2015 and 2017. Authorities were suspicious in both the cases for foul play.
The 202 Male’ City Council migrant workers, who lost accommodation as a result of todays fire incident, are currently housed at the Imaaduddin School.
