Fire broke out in Fiyoree School, destroys the old premises

A blaze ripped through GDh. Fiyoaree School on Sunday evening, destroying the old premises of the school.

Education Ministry said that the fire was initially broke out at the old hall of the building, which also houses some of the class rooms being used for academic purposes. Ministry also informed neither any staff nor any of the school student was injured or hurt due to the incident, as it occurred after hours.

In less than one and half hours time, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) firemen arrived the Island, from Gdh. Thinadhoo, and fought against the fire for one hour until it was brought under control. Prior to the arrival of MNDF firemen, the islanders and police officers residing in the island jointly tried to bring the blaze under control.

The Ministry later informed that the  premises comprises of total five classrooms, of which three are in use. The total number of students in the school is 180.

Ministry further assured to be working with the school management in securing the continuity of student studies other operations of the school.
