Government celebrates Farmers’ Day in Kaashidhoo Island

To mark the occasion of National Farmers’ Day and World Food Day, President Solih has attended the ceremony held in K. Kaashidhoo, on Sunday evening. President also attended the official reception and special banquet held to mark the occasion.

The reception was held at the Kaafu Atoll Education Centre.

Speaking at the ceremony, held in K. Kaashidhoo on Sunday evening, President stated that the country needs to expand the agricultural sector in light of the various global shocks such as health crises and conflicts.

Two years back, the greatest threat to global food security was the Covid-19 pandemic. And now, it’s the war in Ukraine

President said, speaking at the ceremony.

President Solih stated that these global shocks makes the food security more insecure, hence, such such threats must be considered seriously and highlighted the need for treating such threats with utmost care and Proactiveness.

During the ceremony President Solih also spoke about the need to embrace organic farming. President highlighted that the importance of training farmers and giving them the access to the facilities for organic farming.

President Solih said the Agricultural Ministry has so far trained 1,390 farmers in 49 islands over the last four years.

The President will be concluding his visit to Kaashidhoo Island today. He will be returning to Malé in the Afternoon.
